The Levelling Up White Paper fails Luton, says Rachel Hopkins MP

Responding to the Conservative Government’s Levelling Up White Paper, Rachel Hopkins MP stated:

“Today’s announcement is an attempt to divert attention away from the criminal investigation into the behaviour of the Prime Minister and Number 10. So, it’s unsurprising that the Conservative Party has failed to produce a transformational strategy to enhance opportunity, prosperity and power across the UK. With no new money, rehashed announcements and a preoccupation with Renaissance Italy, the Levelling Up White Paper fails Luton and falls far short of the ambitious programme needed to create a fairer UK.

Over £100 million has been stripped from Luton Council’s budget under 12 years of a Conservative Government, forcing our community to lose vital services. This legislation offers no substantial step change. Instead, it reflects a Conservative Party that’s out of energy, out of ideas and out of touch with the challenges facing people in Luton.

The public deserves a new government to lead a new Britain. Labour’s plan to Make, Buy and Sell in Britain would grow our economy and ensure jobs and opportunities are spread fairly across the country”
