This year’s Carers Week theme is about showing those who have caring responsibilities that they’re visible, valued and supported.

With 4.87 million of the 10.58 million carers in the UK worrying about the impact on their physical and mental health, Carers UK is calling on the government to develop a 12 month Recovery and Respite Plan for those who are unpaid. This would focus on improving carer’s mental wellbeing, increasing carer related benefits and ensuring carers can remain in work.

Carers do excellent work, often juggling caring with other responsibilities which is why I’m passionate about ensuring they’re supported. My involvement in a Select Committee Inquiry into social care earlier this year gave me a real insight into what they face. That’s why I’m keen on showing solidarity with Carers UK and all the organisations they work with.
