Humanitarian Emergency in Gaza

The events of the last few weeks have shaken our communities. As the Member of Parliament for Luton South, I stand firmly alongside international calls for peace, the cessation of violence of all military parties and the de-escalation of the crisis. Sarah Owen MP and I have consistently called for increased humanitarian aid to Gaza, the safe return of hostages and those being held on both sides, and renewed negotiations for lasting peace in the Middle East.

As your parliamentary representative, I have been pressing the Government on its failure to stand up for Palestinians. In Parliament this week, I called on the UK Government to work with international partners to get more food, water, medicine and fuel into Gaza. You can watch the video below.

Last week, I wrote to the Foreign Secretary regarding the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, you can read my letter here.

Luton South Small Business Awards 2023

I’m delighted to have launched my third annual Luton South Small Business Awards. Small Businesses are the lifeblood of our local economy. Over the past two years of visiting Luton South Small Business Awards winners, it has been fascinating to learn more about the wide range of small businesses operating in Luton South. From home businesses making cakes and jewellery, to popular local pubs and independent restaurants. I am looking forward to visiting this year’s winners on Small Business Saturday.

Do you know a small business that deserves recognition? Make sure you nominate at the link below and share!

UK Parliament Coronavirus Quilt Unveiling

This week, I was delighted to see the finished UK Parliament Coronavirus Quilt unveiled in Parliament. During the coronavirus pandemic many Parliamentarians stitched a patch for a commemorative quilt. I contributed a square on behalf of Luton South constituents thanking our NHS and key workers for their service.

With the Covid Inquiry ongoing, it is important we keep those that were and continue to be affected in our minds. I will continue to follow the inquiry closely.
